After burst pipes destroy Esme’s city-centre flat, she temporarily relocates to a delightful and small cottage in a village on the edge of town. The change is a big one, but Esme soon settles in and, as the art gallery she co-owns with her business partner, David, continues to thrive, life is sweet.
Until Elliot - an ex whom she hasn’t seen or spoken to for years - moves in next door, along with his perfect new girlfriend, Morgan. Suddenly, Esme’s past is right on her doorstep, or at least just over the fence.
When Elliot and Esme decide to keep their former relationship a secret from those around them, their subterfuge sets off a chain of events which not only forces Esme to re-evaluate her past relationship with Elliot, but also puts her friendship with David under the microscope and under pressure.
My thoughts on Ex Next Door
I received an advanced reader copy of Ex Next Door from the lovely people at Netgalley after submitting a request to read it. I am not familiar with the author of this one, but the cover was striking and made me want to check it out.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, from start to finish. In places its a little slow but if you stick with it, its a really good read. For anyone who likes a bit of romance and comedy all rolled into one this is for you.
The main characters Esme and Elliott are both well written and described, I am a stickler for opinions whilst reading and disliked Elliot from the start! The under written character of David, Esme's business partner, I wanted more from and I enjoyed the comedy paragraphs from the neighbour of the gallery.
The storyline itself is engaging and whilst reading this book the house opposite myself and my fiancé had gone up for sale, yes we have had the discussion of what if one of our ex's moved in. My finances response was that ours would soon be up for sale!
The ending, well I can't say at any point did I see that coming! A perfectly hidden story line that is literally not bought out until the final chapters. However, I must admit, an ending I did want for Esme due to my dislike for Elliot.
I would recommend this to any reader who enjoys chick-lit or light hearted romance books.
